Article in Maclean’s today in which I’m quoted on my pet peeve, European fragrance regulation.

Thanks for the link.
Meanwhile, the Director of IFRA UK says she’s not aware of any perfumes having been reformulated because of anti-allergen concerns…
How charming. Then honestly, I don’t know why they bother making regulations complete with compliance deadlines if every single perfume in existence already meets the criteria. In fact, it’s a wonder how fragrance got the reputation for being a cause of dermatitis, since from the moment each fragrance was made, by some stroke of luck, it was utterly compliant with the IFRA regulations of the future. In fact, since this is true, may I suggest we simply disband the allergen programs of RIFM and IFRA? After all, years of their dutiful restrictions have, according to this candid person, not caused any changes to any particular perfume, and therefore the whole program has been a hilarious waste of money and time.
Similar thoughts had crossed my mind too… although, to be fair the Director, she simply said that she’s *not aware* of any IFRA-induced reformulations…
Ah, blissful ignorance.
